We are all aware of the current challenges facing our school districts with regards to shrinking numbers of students entering teacher training programs, fewer candidates for open positions and staff leaving the teaching field after just a few years of service. All these factors, along with other influences, have resulted in a greater investment by both the state and local school districts to change the way they develop teacher programs. The focus on “grow your own” teachers has become prominent at all levels including in our own Batavia Public Schools. The development of our Educator Pathways program has been a collaborative effort and this article will unpack Batavia High School’s journey.
