The conversation about how artificial intelligence (AI) will affect school operations isn’t just hypothetical—it’s already becoming part of our reality. AI tools such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT1, Google’s Bard2 and Microsoft’s Copilot3 are gaining traction and are actively being used in schools. This transformation will have a marked impact on school management, and Chief School Business Officials (CSBOs) will play a pivotal role in this evolution.
AI will go beyond automation; it will extend staff capacity and provide insights that improve support for student learning. AI tools can already serve as a personal assistant, aiding in all types of tasks, including budget development, risk assessment, contract analysis and accounts payable invoice processing, for example. As AI tools advance, machine learning algorithms and predictive analytics will soon analyze historical local data sets, offering valuable insights on almost anything.
